From Wikipedia: Konjac can also be used for facial massage accessories which are currently popular in Korea and gaining popularity in the West. Most commonly this is through the use of a konjac sponge, which is unique in that it can be used on sensitive skin that may become easily irritated with more common exfoliating tools (such as a loofah or washcloth).
Konjac is considered a root, of the yam family if I'm correct.
I've been very interested in this item, but I couldn't find one in stores near me, nor did I want to purchase one online because there were so many brands trying to sell it, I didn't quite know who to purchase it from and I like to put things off.
While perusing my local Target I found a Konjac sponge from Eco Tools on an endcap. It was a very good price - 3.99$ if I remember correctly. The packaging was fairly cute, but what's inside is what interested me the most. a pure white, nicely sized egg cut-in-half shaped sponge.
I took it out of the packaging and was pretty surprised at how coarse it was, but I followed the instructions and wet it with some warm water. I've read that you don't have to use a facial cleanser with it, and since I just wanted to see what it felt like to begin with, I didn't bother grabbing any.
When it got wet, the texture changed considerably. The best way I can describe it is: Getting something wet that really shouldn't be. It's super squishy, but it holds onto the water pretty well, and I'll admit it doesn't feel too badly on my skin. I'm not really sure how much exfoliation it'll do to my skin, nor do I really expect it to improve it at all, but I love participating in trends.
Stay tuned for an update in a couple of weeks!
